FAQs

How do I set up an Arlo camera for the first time?

Arlo camera setup can be completed using the Arlo app and the web based setup wizard as well. You can choose any method based on your convenience. For the App based method, you’ll need to have the Arlo app downloaded and installed on your smartphone/tablet. You can then use the app to configure the camera with the wifi network at your location and also connect it to the base station.

If you wish to continue with the Arlo camera setup using the web-based setup wizard, you can use the web address my.arlo.com to access the setup wizard and then configure the network and device settings. The set up wizard will walk you through the easy steps to get done with the camera configuration process.

Why won’t my Arlo camera connect to Wi-Fi?

A key thing to note whenever you are trying to connect Arlo cameras to WiFi is, they will only connect to the 2.4GHz band of the WiFi network. Otherwise, you will always find your Arlo camera offline. Therefore, if you have a dual-band router at your home, locate the correct SSID of the 2.4GHz band and then connect it to the same.

Secondly, also check if the password you are typing is correct or not. The sequence and order of the letters, numbers, and characters that constitute the password should be accurate for it to work.

Finally, ensure that there is no MAC Filtering enabled on your router. With this feature enabled, your router will avoid connecting to devices other than the list of those specified in the settings. Log in to your router setup wizard and check these settings.

Do I need a base station to use Arlo cameras?

Well, not all models of the Arlo camera require connecting to a base station before you can connect them to WiFi. Latest camera models like the Arlo Camera Pro 5 and Ultra 2 can connect to the WiFi network at your home directly, thus operating independently.

If you are unsure if you should use an Arlo base station or not, check the user manual that comes along with the camera.

What does the Arlo base station do?

Arlo base stations can be considered as central hubs which you can use to connect Arlo cameras. These devices provide a secure network, options for local data storage, and enhanced functionality for your home security system.

CVR(Continuous Video Recording) is an optional feature available on certain cameras and an Arlo base station is required to use it. With CVR activated on your Arlo camera, you can record the activities 24/7 and capture everything in the background to view it later.

How do I reset the Arlo base station?

Your Arlo base station has a reset button available on the back panel. To reset, you can use a thin object like a pin or a paperclip to press and hold the reset button for about 10 seconds. After 10 seconds, release the reset button and you will see the LED on the front of the device flash in amber color. The base station will also reboot to mark the completion of the reset process.

Now, once the reset process is complete, you can remove the base station from the Arlo account to prevent future problems. To remove the base station from the account, launch the app or sign in to your account at my.arlo.com. Head over to Settings and then select My Devices. Now from the device list, locate the base station and tap on Remove Device. When prompted to confirm the choice, tap on yes to confirm the reset operation. This will reset your base station device.
